(Via Hatena.co.kr) KDDI, Japan's #2 wireless carrier, announced it will provide a new web/mobile integrated email service that's powered by Google's Gmail.

The new email service will be available from this September and will be available to all KDDI subscribers for free of charge. Subscribers will get @auone.jp email address and a 2GB inbox.

For many Japanse mobile users, mobile email is the most heavily used feature. This is often the reason why the users are not changing their mobile carrier even under MNP - telling all their friends about the new mobile email and having them update their phone book is a bit of a hassle.

Gmail has many strengths such as fast search, 2GB free space, seamless integration between web and mobile.

Considering these, KDDI looks to have scored another good deal with Google. KDDI's mobile search is also currently being done by Google.
